Comicsgater anti sjw trolls put Static Shock in a pedestal to just to bash other black and brown characters. Static was the “wokest” show ever. It calls out racism constantly. His best friend Richie is a gay man. It even showed the dangers of white people committing mass shootings. If Static Shock was out today you bet your ass haters will foam at the mouth with cry “SJW” and “pandering” and send Dwayne McDuffie death threats if he was still alive.
Just because Virgil’s identity wasn’t influenced by a white male character likes Miles Morales, America Chavez, Kamala Khan or Riri Williams doesn’t mean he was better nor worse.
Static literally got his powers when a corrupt, racist, white billionaire collaborated with a corrupt police department to introduce radioactive material to mostly Black and Latino teenagers during a gang fight so they could track them against their will and knowledge. A move that resulted in many of the teenagers dying.
Static’s very origin story is police brutality.
